At Rotary Camp we change lives! We provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to create, learn, and grow in safe and caring environments. When campers leave Rotary Camp at the end of a program, they not only leave with lifelong memories and friends, but they show more independence, as well a greater understanding of themselves and their abilities.
Louis, a 9-year-old boy, began attending Rotary Camp’s Extended School (ESY) Program in 2024. Since then, he has also ventured into our fun-filled year-round Respite Programs, which he has enjoyed since the fall of 2024.
“I was excited when I found Rotary Camp. At first, I was not so sure if his needs would be met. Was his self-harm too much to manage? Or the fact that he has a G-Tube? At times, those where the obstacles that made him ineligible to attend other camps. Rotary Camp, with its amazing indoor immersion in the views, ropes course, and the wonderful sensory room to decompress and refocus, seemed like a suitable place to try for the summer.
Louis loves the outdoors and truly values social inclusion. ESY was a great combination of the services he needs, with the camp activities he loves, allowing him to participate in it. At Rotary Camp, enough people understood him to help him have happy days when he attended. It filled me with hope and encouragement to see how relaxed he was most days when I picked him up.
Having days here and there to look forward to has been a lifesaver for us, knowing that Louis' needs will be met. It allows us to unwind in a way we have not experienced before. I cannot emphasize enough how much this has helped us see him in a new light after he returns home, giving us the strength to keep moving forward.
